Sadly, a lot of South African staff have had to venture overseas to find due reward for their skill and work ethic. Now, according to digital outsourcing firm, Strider Digital, we find out exactly why South Africans are so beloved around the world.
In a report from Business Tech, the outsourcing firm says South African staff are coveted due to their high standard of education and experience, work ethic and diversity. And a favourable South African time zone is a bonus, too.

Therefore, we’ve seen a growing trend of large multinationals setting up subsidiaries locally. Because, truthfully, South Africans are as educated and skilled as their overseas counterparts but need only to be paid a fraction of the income.
“Our country has been favoured as a fast-developing outsourcing industry for years now. South Africa is home to a highly educated and skilled workforce, with many individuals holding degrees,” says Bjorn Annegarn of Strider Digital.

As a result, back in 2020, McKinsey named Mzansi the second-best Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) location in the world. Accordingly, it predicts this sector will grow 3% annually. And at the centre of this allure is South Africans and their hard-working nature.
So, latest statistics say the average South African works upwards of 43 hours per week. This equates to nearly nine hours per day across a typical five-day work week. In turn, South Africans rank at number five for the hardest working people in the world.

“The business case for mixed ethnic and cultural diversity in teams and companies is well founded. It is well-known that South Africa has a unique cultural mix, which means they are well-acquainted with cross-cultural communication and thinking,” concludes Annegarn.
